How we write

The five rules

A travel guide stands on what it is willing not to say. These are ours, and they apply to every page on the site.

01 Nothing goes in unseen We do not publish a guide to a place we have not been. If it is missing, we have not been yet. 02 Nobody buys a place No paid listings, no sponsored content. Booking commissions are disclosed and never change the order. 03 Prices carry a date Every figure says when it is from and in what currency. An undated price is useless for planning. 04 The photograph is of the place If we have no real image of somewhere, we do not borrow one: we would rather run the entry without a photo. 05 The awkward parts too Sargassum, hurricanes, altitude, queues and months to avoid. A guide that only praises is not a guide.
