We went to dine and bought food at the sunset restaurant then told the waiter we'll head to the infinity pool where they normally ask for a deposit of 250 $ pesos per individual. Once near the moment to pay the bill and go to the pool we were told whatever we ordered doesn't count since we needed to tell them prior. This felt so much like a kids game that we didn't wanted to spend more at this restaurant. Food tastes good but you'll find just as good food outside the hotel for cheaper. This was our favorite hotel until last visit on 7/25 when we have problems with our reservation and took 6 hrs to get us our rooms, rooms were bad smell , bathroom was very antigenic , AC unit was noisy , and the worst was the front desk personnel very unprofessional and not helpful, we pay for fbreakfast but couldn’t get our $$ back at the end because was pay wit a credit card, always giving us excuses , we won’t be back to this hotel anymore, just be careful of those rooms they ore not worth the price you pay,and front desk personnel,
The room was in horrible condition the door locks look like they’ve been broken into multiple times. It felt unsafe at all times. The worst part is they double charge you a month later and once you call they say they’re not sure how that happened. Pay attention to whatever card you use because they will double charge you.
Planning your trip to Acapulco De Juarez
When to go
Acapulco lives on the Mexican calendar: Holy Week, Christmas-New Year and long weekends fill the Costera and double the prices; ordinary weekends bring Mexico City down by bus. Midweek, the city is yours and the rates show it.
The weather is warm all year — 28-32°C; June to October rains in the afternoons, and September-October carry the cyclone risk, with prices at the floor. November to April is dry and luminous.
The honest point: reconstruction after hurricanes Otis (2023) and John (2024) remains uneven. Most of the hotel stock has reopened, but read the last few months' reviews for your exact hotel before paying — the gap between renovated and halfway is enormous.
An expectations nuance: today's Acapulco is a domestic destination rebuilding itself at opportunity prices — anyone arriving for a polished Caribbean-style resort has the wrong coast, and anyone arriving for the bay, the seafood and honestly priced sunsets has it exactly right.
Getting there and around
From Mexico City, the Autopista del Sol: 5 hours by bus for about MX$600-800 at 2025 prices, with continuous departures from Taxqueña, or 4 by car. The airport sits out by Diamante, 30-45 minutes from the Costera; authorised transport about MX$300-500 per vehicle.
The Costera Miguel Alemán is the axis: city buses run its whole length for pocket change and taxis abound — agree the fare first, as local custom demands. Apps work in the tourist zone.
From the Costera to Caleta and La Quebrada, a bus or short taxi; to Diamante and Barra Vieja, a 20-30 minute car ride. Pie de la Cuesta, the sunset beach to the north, is 30-40 minutes away and the classic afternoon excursion.
Where to stay, zone by zone
The Dorada zone — the Costera's central arc — is classic Acapulco: bay-front towers, many of them veterans, with beach, restaurants and life on foot. It is also where the budget stretches furthest: our 2026 scan logged a typical rate of US$87 for the city, entry from US$24 — prices from another era for a beach outside your room.
Acapulco Diamante, toward the airport, holds the new and the expensive: resorts and condo towers on Playa Diamante, more isolated and closer to current tastes. It needs a car or taxis for everything.
Traditional Acapulco — Caleta, Caletilla, La Quebrada — is functional nostalgia: golden-age hotels, calm water for swimming with children, and the cliff divers at sunset. Low prices, retro charm, and some paint pending. The honest decision: bay and walkable life in the Dorada, modern resort in Diamante, stopped time at Caleta.
By profile: the classic weekend down from Mexico City, the Dorada on the Costera; modern resort with kids, Diamante; nostalgia and calm water, Caleta; sunsets and a hammock, Pie de la Cuesta, which works as its own mini-destination 40 minutes out. Budgets stretch across this city like almost nowhere else on the Mexican coast — that is Acapulco's competitive advantage today.
A sober note for foreign visitors: Acapulco's crowd is overwhelmingly domestic and its rhythms are Mexican — Spanish helps more here than in Cancún, and the city is at its best enjoyed the local way: beach mornings, long seafood lunches, terrace sunsets.
Eating and going out
Acapulco eats from the sea with a Guerrero accent: pescado a la talla — the local dish that justifies the trip — ceviches and cart-served seafood cocktails. Barra Vieja and Pie de la Cuesta serve the canonical pescado a la talla with your feet in the sand; in town, the Costera's marisquerías and central market stalls run MX$80-250 a plate in 2025.
The usual rule: raw dishes at midday and where the queue is. Thursday's green pozole is a state institution — seek it out on that day.
Acapulco's nightlife was legend and lives on at its own scale: bay-view clubs along the Costera, beach bars, and La Quebrada with dinner and cliff divers. Today's register is more family and domestic than the golden age — and sunsets from any terrace remain the main show.
A beach-and-table tip: the sand-floor restaurants of Barra Vieja and Pie de la Cuesta close with the sun — they are a long-lunch plan, not dinner. Acapulco dinner belongs to the Costera and its terraces, with the lit bay behind.
