4.61537 reviewsIt's okay, but I've stayed in 3 rooms and they all need repairs and could use renovations. We had a cockroach in our room this time. They advertise an airport shuttle but they aren't sure if they can do it or not. Usually not. It's a great location though.
The staff was so friendly and the space was amazingly clean and comfortable. Honestly better than I expected. The only negative I would say was the breakfast was very unorganized so it took us over 45 minutes to get food. Other than that, great time. Shower wasn’t super hot but it was warmer than the last shower I experienced in Mexico. Great water pressure!
When I first walked in the room and turned on the bathroom light my daughter saw a cockroach. The bathroom also had the coffee maker for you to make your coffee while you used the bathroom I guess. Also the morning that we woke up to head our way home I had bites all over my body and I'm almost positive it was bed bugs. I payed around $88 for our family one night stay. I do not recommend this hotel at all do not go for the name. This is deff the worst Hilton hotel !!!
Planning your trip to Ciudad Victoria
When to go
The comfortable months are October to November and February to March: mild days, low humidity and cool nights, helped by the 300-odd metres of elevation and the sierra to the west. That is when you can walk the centre at midday without suffering, and hike up Cañón del Novillo without setting out at dawn.
May to September brings the real heat, regularly 38-40°C, with full sun on boulevards that offer almost no shade. Rain arrives June to October, usually as late-afternoon storms, and the tail ends of Gulf storm systems can close stretches of highway for a day or two at a time.
Winter is deceptive. A norte can drop the temperature twenty degrees in hours and leave wind, drizzle and days that hover around 8-10°C. Pack a layer even for December: hotels here are built against heat, not cold, and heating tends to be more gesture than system.
On rates, the city runs on work rather than seasons. Weekdays fill with business and government travellers; weekends breathe. Trade fairs, university graduations and official events squeeze availability far more than any holiday period ever does, so check what is on before you commit to dates.
Getting there and around
General Pedro José Méndez airport (CVM) sits about twenty minutes from town and is small: a handful of flights, nearly all to Mexico City, on schedules that shift from season to season. Plenty of visitors fly into Monterrey instead and drive roughly four hours on Highway 85, or into Tampico, about three hours to the southeast.
Buses run often from Monterrey, Tampico, Ciudad Mante and San Luis Potosí. The terminal sits away from the centre, so plan on a taxi to your hotel, around MX$60-100 for trips within town. If you are driving, the Libramiento Naciones Unidas bypass saves you crossing the whole city end to end.
The local rule is not paranoia: travel by day. Intercity legs are done in daylight, on main roads, with a full tank and no improvised shortcuts. Avoid rural stretches after dark, tell someone your route, and read the current official advisories before heading out on the highway.
Inside the city, everything stretches along long, unwalkable boulevards. Urban buses are cheap, roughly MX$12-15, but their routes are hard to decode as a visitor; taxis are the practical answer and ride-hailing apps work patchily. For the canyon or the reservoir, you really want a car.
Where to stay, zone by zone
The Zona Centro, around Plaza Hidalgo, the cathedral and the Palacio de Gobierno, is the walkable part: offices, cafés, the Paseo Méndez walkway and cheap lunches around the corner. Stay here if you are handling paperwork or arriving without a car. The trade-off is that it empties after dark and parking is a genuine headache.
Along Boulevard Fidel Velázquez and the northern corridor sits most of what our scans picked up: business hotels with parking, air conditioning, included breakfast and fast access to the bypass. They have no charm and claim none, but they work, and they are the right call if you drive in from Monterrey or the coast.

If you are only breaking a journey between Monterrey and the Gulf, stay near the bus terminal or the highway exits and do not pretend you will see the city that night. For the El Cielo biosphere reserve, about two hours south, Victoria works well as a base for an early start.
Eating and going out
The food is northern and unfussy: grilled beef, cabrito, bistec tacos, machacado con huevo for breakfast and morning gorditas from neighbourhood stalls. A set lunch at a fonda runs somewhere around MX$100-150; a proper steakhouse dinner costs considerably more, especially out on the boulevard strip.
The centre belongs to lunchtime. Fondas and seafood places fill between two and four, then shutters come down early. Evening life shifts to the boulevards, where the grill houses, chains and bars with a university crowd are, almost all with their own parking lot.
The sea is closer than it looks: La Pesca is about two and a half hours away and Tampico three, so crab and fresh fish turn up on menus as a matter of course. In the hot months, a shaded seafood terrace with a fan going is the best mid-afternoon plan the city offers.
Do not expect big-city nightlife. Victoria closes early on weekdays and wakes up on Friday and Saturday. Otherwise the honest outing is a park — Tamatán with its zoo, or Siglo XXI — or driving up to Cañón del Novillo for sunset, coming back down before dark.
Booking well
With only four hotels publishing rates, availability matters more than price. Book several days ahead for a weekday stay, and further out if your trip overlaps with a fair, graduation season or an official event: in a city this size the decent rooms go quickly and the fallback options drop sharply in quality.
Ask three things before paying: whether parking is included, which it usually is but confirm it; how well the air conditioning actually works if you are coming between May and September; and whether the room faces the boulevard, because freight traffic does not stop at night. An inside room beats a view here.
