3.21913 reviewsAppropriate budget hotel. However, it is far from being a recommendable hotel. Parking is space limited, far from adequate to the occupancy capacity. Cleanliness is below average, the carpeting is questionable and you wonder how thorough they clean after a check out; or how often they do deep cleaning since we found a nail cutter in the cupboard with the extra blankets and a lighter under the bedside table. Attention is acceptable, but the restaurant has deficient service.
2 stars cause they had enough space and it's in the middle of everything. Those are the only 2 good things to it. The elevator hardly works and it's only 1 out of the 2 that's functional. Parking is limited. They will not help you with your bags, another person actually staying here helped instead. They charge 40 pesos for a tiny bucket of ice. Only 1 of the AC's in the room worked and we got the suite. Some lights don't work. The shower is in the tub with no curtain, so when you shower water is all over the place.
The place is in great need of updating. The sheets were stained, the chairs were stained, the carpet was filthy, the blinds were broken and the paint in the bathroom was peeling. It's redeeming value is that the beds were soft and it is located in the center of town. The parking is extremely limited but is gated.
Planning your trip to Irapuato
When to go
The kindest weather runs November to March: dry skies, afternoons of 22-26°C and genuinely cold nights — at 1,720 m, January dawns drop below 10°C. November is also the hardest month for a room. The Expo Agroalimentaria, held mid-month, fills Irapuato and a good share of the Bajío towns around it, from León to Celaya.
March to May brings the dry Bajío heat: 30-33°C by mid-afternoon, dust in the air, hard midday sun. It cools down by nine at night, so this is nothing like the coast, but a room without air conditioning shows its limits fast. The compensation is peak strawberry season, and the markets make that obvious.
Rain falls June to September, concentrated in the late afternoon: half an hour of downpour, flooded streets for a while, then a mild evening. It is the greenest stretch and the slowest for tourism, though business travel never pauses. Practical rule for the lowest rates: aim at Friday to Sunday, in any month of the year.
Getting there and around
Bajío airport (BJX) at Silao is the natural way in: about 40 km, 35-45 minutes on the motorway, with domestic flights and several US routes. The authorised taxi runs in the order of MX$800-1,000; if your trip involves factories or nearby towns, a rental car pays for itself. Querétaro, roughly two hours out, works as a plan B with more flights.
Road connections are the city's strength. From the Central de Autobuses there are frequent departures to León (about 45 minutes), Guanajuato city (a little over an hour), Celaya, Querétaro (around two hours), Guadalajara (three and a half to four) and Mexico City (five to six). First-class fares run in the order of MX$150 to MX$600 depending on the leg.
Driving, the 45D toll road links Irapuato with León, Salamanca, Celaya and Querétaro; the free road to Guanajuato is short but slow. Boulevard Díaz Ordaz is the city's spine and clogs at shift changes, roughly 7am, 3pm and 6pm. Parking in the Centro is a nuisance: budget for a paid lot rather than circling for a kerb space.
Locally, city buses cost around MX$12 and a taxi or app ride across town MX$60-120. Guanajuato is a state with real violence between criminal groups, and Irapuato has appeared in the statistics; visitors are rarely touched by it, but follow the local rule: night driving on toll roads only, no shortcuts down secondary roads.
Where to stay, zone by zone
The Centro is small and walkable: a few blocks link the Jardín Hidalgo, the Templo del Hospitalito and the Soledad parish church, with market stalls, cheap kitchens and busy midday streets. Hotels here are small and mostly old; this is where the cheap end of our scans lives, from US$28. The trade-offs are bus noise by day and very empty streets after ten.
The Boulevard Díaz Ordaz corridor is where the business hotels sit: parking, breakfast included, air conditioning, meeting rooms, and rates close to the typical figure of the order of US$56 we logged. Nothing interesting is within walking distance, but you are next to the shopping centres and about ten minutes by taxi from the Centro. It solves a work trip cleanly.
The highway exits and the industrial belt, with the Castro del Río park as the landmark, offer functional places built for people clocking in at seven: plain rooms, big car parks, zero charm. They do that job well and nothing else. If you are travelling for pleasure, be honest with yourself: sleep in Guanajuato or León and treat Irapuato as a strawberry-and-lunch stop.
Eating and going out
Strawberries are identity here, not marketing. In season, roadside stands and the city markets sell them with cream, candied, as jam and as fruit paste, and whole boxes go for something near grower prices. A cup of strawberries and cream or an ice cream in the Centro costs in the order of MX$50-80, and it justifies the walk over.
Everyday eating runs from the set lunch in a fonda — around MX$100-150 for soup, a main and a drink — to late-night taquerías, morning gorditas and Sunday carnitas. The more formal restaurants sit along the boulevards and inside the shopping centres, with bills in the order of MX$250-400 a head. Nothing here is expensive by Mexican city standards.
Nightlife is modest and local: scattered bars along the boulevard belt, cinemas in the malls, and a Centro that shuts early on weekdays. Friday and Saturday the main garden livens up with families and street stalls. If you land or arrive by bus late, pick a hotel with a restaurant or food nearby — by eleven, options thin out fast.

Inventory is thin: our 2026 scans found 13 hotels with a real price in the city, from US$28 a night and a typical rate of the order of US$56. With so few options, one trade fair or a couple of conventions is enough to strip Irapuato of decent rooms. Book ahead for Tuesday to Thursday; weekends you can usually improvise.
Before you pay, check three things: private, gated parking if you are driving; air conditioning, which you will want from March to May; and heating or at least enough blankets, because winter nights fall below 10°C and many mid-range hotels do not heat rooms. Ask what time breakfast opens too, if you have an early start at a plant.
Request an inside or rear room if the hotel faces the boulevard — freight traffic does not stop overnight. Favour rates with free cancellation, since work trips shift at the last minute. And if November is booked solid, look at Salamanca, Silao or León: all under an hour away by motorway, with frequent buses back and forth.
