3.97530 reviews3 star hotel for sure. Liliana at the Italian restaurant was super rude as soon as we arrived. Our hotel room had a lot of little bugs (possible ants?) and my mom found one sneaking into her ear this morning. All inclusive beverages are below average. Rooms and bathrooms are a little out dated. So yeah, 3 star hotel.
The rooms were clean and most have balconies looking over the beach. The service is amazing, the staff is so friendly and helpful. As of the location the hotel is a bit away from any store or pharmacy, but they are a 10-20 minute walk away. One downside to the hotel is check-in and check-out, as the lobby and patio get packed. Would definitely recommend getting there early to check-in.
Overall food and drink were terrible. Room was clean, king bed comfortable but AC was not great! Service was good in the resort. Elevators are terrible- so don’t be in a hurry if you’re taking elevators. Very few loungers on beach, wooden chairs that aren’t the most comfortable. No fridge in the rooms. Buffets were not always the greatest, went to Ixtapa restaurants a few times to eat to avoid buffets. Booze not good. Food not always warm at burger bar. Beach drink service was good. Recommendation is to go somewhere else. :(
Planning your trip to Ixtapa
When to go
The dry season runs December to April: days around 30-32°C, warm nights, calm water and essentially no rain. It is also the expensive stretch, spiking over Christmas, New Year and Holy Week, when the hotel strip fills with Mexican families and Canadians who settle in for weeks. Book months ahead for those dates and forget about bargains.
May and June turn humid and sticky, though the sea is warm and rates start sliding. From July to October it rains most afternoons, the hills go green and the air stays heavy; September is both the wettest month and the peak of the Pacific hurricane season. The trade-off is an almost empty resort and the lowest prices of the year.
November and the first half of December are the sweet spot: the rain has stopped and neither the crowds nor the high-season rates have arrived. January brings the freshest mornings of the year. If your plan is swimming and walking without soaking your shirt, aim for those weeks.
Getting there and around
Zihuatanejo airport (ZIH) sits about 10 km from town and roughly half an hour from the Ixtapa hotel strip. It handles domestic flights all year plus a wave of seasonal services from the US and Canada between December and April. An authorised airport taxi to Ixtapa runs on the order of MX$500-600, noticeably less to Zihuatanejo.
Overland, first-class buses from Mexico City take something like nine hours, with regular links to Lázaro Cárdenas, Morelia and Acapulco; the coast road from Acapulco is about four hours. The standing local advice is worth repeating: do not drive highways in Guerrero after dark, and cover the stretches towards Michoacán in daylight.
You do not need a car here. Local buses and shared vans shuttle between Ixtapa and Zihuatanejo every few minutes from early morning until around eleven at night for roughly MX$15; a taxi between the two is MX$150-200, short hops inside Ixtapa much less. A paved bike path also links the two centres along the road.
Rent a car only if you plan to leave the corridor: Troncones and Barra de Potosí are 30 to 40 minutes away and worth the drive. For most visitors, two or three taxi rides a day cost less than the rental, the fuel and the hotel parking put together.
Where to stay, zone by zone
The Ixtapa hotel zone is essentially one street, Bulevar Ixtapa, with the large hotels on one side and Playa El Palmar on the other. It is the easy choice: big pools, all-inclusive plans, everything on foot. It is also the least characterful, and El Palmar is open ocean, so read the flags before you swim.
Marina Ixtapa, at the north end, mixes condos and hotels around the docks and the golf course. Dinner is good and nights are quiet, but the swimming beach is not out front. Further north, Playa Quieta and Playa Linda give you long sand and very few hotels, fine if you want isolation and do not mind depending on taxis.
Zihuatanejo is the other world: a fishing town with a walkable centre, a market and a pier. The centre has small, cheap hotels; Playa Madera and above all Playa La Ropa hold the places with bay views and the calmest water around. Stay here if you came for atmosphere rather than for a resort pool.

Eating and going out
In Ixtapa, life orbits the hotels and the small commercial plazas across the boulevard: broad menus, resort pricing, some live music late in season. It works for an easy evening without moving the car, but it is neither the best nor the cheapest food in the area.
Zihuatanejo is where you eat. Along the waterfront walk by the main beach and in the streets behind it, a full seafood meal runs roughly MX$200-350 a head. Order tiritas, the local strips of raw fish with lime and chilli, pescado a la talla off the grill, aguachile, and green pozole on Thursdays, a Guerrero habit many kitchens still keep.
Breakfast is better in town too: the market and the small places around it serve eggs, beans and coffee for a fraction of hotel buffet money, and they open early enough for a boat trip. If your rate includes breakfast, fine; if not, do not assume you have to eat where you sleep.
Nightlife is modest. Ixtapa has hotel bars and a couple of spots on the boulevard; Zihuatanejo leans towards terraces with a bay view, beer and unhurried mezcal. In the low months places close or cut days, so ask at reception before crossing town at ten at night.
Booking well
Christmas, New Year and Holy Week need two or three months of lead time, especially for anything beachfront. Outside those peaks, the gap between booking a month out and turning up last minute is smaller than you would expect, though the rainy season throws up rates you will never see in January.
Do the all-inclusive maths honestly. The format dominates in Ixtapa and can pay off with children in tow, but if you plan to eat in Zihuatanejo most days, a room-only or breakfast rate buys more freedom for less money. Check whether the quoted price includes tax and service before comparing.
Before you pay, confirm three things: that the hotel is genuinely on the beach rather than across the boulevard, that air conditioning works in every room and not only in the newer wing, and what the cancellation policy looks like between June and October. In cyclone season, a refundable rate earns its extra dollars.
