About Matamoros: Matamoros is a working border city, and its hotels exist for exactly that. All hotels in Matamoros →

Rooms and rates

Across our 2026 scans we logged 10 priced stays for Hotel Ritz: rates ran from US$65 to US$69 a night depending on the date, how far ahead you book, and occupancy. As with most hotels in Matamoros, midweek nights tend to come in cheaper than weekends, and booking two or more weeks ahead widens the choice of rooms with free cancellation. The price you see after tapping “Check availability” is the live app.impt.io rate for your exact dates, not an estimate.

Location

Hotel Ritz is at 612 Matamoros Zona Centro, Matamoros, Mexico. The nearest city with a bigger hotel scene is Reynosa, about 33 km away — compare Reynosa hotels too if your plans are flexible. This page's “View on map” link opens the exact spot in Google Maps, so you can measure the journeys that matter to you.

The facilities, in detail

For food and drink, the hotel lists bars, breakfast and restaurant(s). Practical services include 24 hour front desk, business center, free car parking and meeting room. In the room itself: free wifi. The full list of 11 facilities is below; double-check the ones that are deal-breakers when you book, as hotels adjust what they offer by season.

Good to know before you book

The booking flow is three steps: dates and guests in this page's widget, the live price on app.impt.io, and instant confirmation. Most rooms are offered with free cancellation until a few days before arrival — the exact deadline is shown next to each rate before you pay. Every confirmed booking also removes a tonne of CO₂ through IMPT's carbon-removal projects, at no extra cost to you. When comparing, note that the three-star rating reflects the hotel's declared standard; the guest reviews on this page tell you how it actually feels to stay.

Matamoros for hotel guests

People sleep here for a meeting at an industrial park, a consular appointment, an early crossing into Brownsville, or the night that separates one bus from the next. The supply is short and predictable: hotels with parking and breakfast along Avenida Álvaro Obregón and the Periférico ring road, plus plainer places downtown. Our 2026 scans found just 6 hotels with a real price: from US$43 a night and a typical rate of about US$83. A small sample and steady rates, because here the corporate calendar sets demand, not tourism. All hotels in Matamoros →

So beds are hard. You will not get a good night sleep. I felt like a rotisserie chicken turning on all sides just to sleep. Location is perfect for exploring the area. Free breakfast is a lie. There is no free breakfast. The restaurant is across the street. Food is good. I’m night recommending to anyone to stay here. But if you do stay here they do have good water pressure for showering. Room was clean. Area is pretty quite. Staff was nice. Bar is ok. Small bar. I had a few beers at the bar. $40 pesos a beer. Basically $2.50 US dollars. No music to listen to. Just a tv and they put on movies…

4/5 Ramiro Banda

Stayed overnight only and spent most of the evening in the piano bar in the lobby. Good service, inexpensive drinks and best of all, no driving, just walk up to the elevator and done. Rooms were clean but small. Not made for plus sized folk.

Room got ice cold free parking and we ate at the restaurant good food and cheap sketchy neighborhood tho

Planning your trip to Matamoros

When to go

November to March is the kind stretch: days of 22-26°C, cool nights, humidity you barely notice. That is the window for walking downtown, the cathedral and the Mercado Juárez without suffering. Don't expect it to move room rates, though — in Matamoros the thermometer doesn't set prices, company travel schedules do.

Winter has one catch: the nortes. A cold front off the Gulf can drop the temperature ten or fifteen degrees in a few hours, with steady wind and stubborn drizzle. Pack a jacket even if the forecast promises a mild afternoon; crossing the bridge on foot into that wind is a different experience entirely.

May to September brings the real humid heat: 35-38°C with Gulf moisture that makes it feel worse. Air conditioning stops being a detail and becomes a booking criterion. August and September concentrate the heavy rain and the cyclone season, with flooded avenues and delayed flights as part of the deal.

The calendar that actually moves prices is another one. Midweek brings the maquiladora visits and the Periférico hotels tighten up. Add late February, when Charro Days ties Matamoros to Brownsville; Holy Week, when half the city heads for Playa Bagdad; and the second half of December, when Mexicans living in the US drive south.

Getting there and around

General Servando Canales International Airport (MAM) sits minutes from town, but it is small and its schedule comes down to a few frequencies, mainly to Mexico City. Check timetables before you build an itinerary: a cancellation here is not solved by the next flight, it is solved the next day.

The practical alternative is to cross. Brownsville (BRO) is minutes from the bridge and Harlingen (HRL) under an hour away, with far more connections. The Gateway International Bridge links the two downtowns on foot for a few dollars in tolls, passport in hand; the Veterans Bridge, known locally as Los Tomates, handles vehicles. Northbound queues can be long; southbound rarely is.

Overland, the central bus terminal runs services to Monterrey in four to five hours, plus Reynosa, Ciudad Victoria and Tampico. The local advice, stated plainly, is to travel Tamaulipas highways in daylight, avoid driving between cities at night, and stay off secondary roads you don't know.

Matamoros is flat and spread out. Downtown walks fine by day; the Periférico and the industrial parks do not. Dispatched taxis are the normal solution: have reception call one and agree the fare before you get in, roughly MX$80-150 for trips across town. City buses cost around MX$12 but assume you know the routes.

Where to stay, zone by zone

Avenida Álvaro Obregón, which begins at the Gateway bridge, is the safest bet if you arrive without a car. A tree-lined median, restaurants, offices and the US consulate nearby; this is where the hotels with the most reviews cluster, and where you can eat dinner and walk back. It also has the most daytime activity, which counts in this city.

The historic centre — Plaza Hidalgo, the cathedral, the Teatro de la Reforma, the Mercado Juárez, the Casamata fort a few blocks off — has the cheapest beds and the pedestrian crossing on your doorstep. The honest downside: older buildings, traffic noise, and streets that empty after eight. Fine for one transit night, thin for a working week.

Out along the Periférico and the industrial parks sit the corporate-style hotels: gated parking, breakfast included, a small gym, a front desk used to late arrivals. This is where the typical rate of about US$83 from our 2026 scans lives. No charm at all, plenty of efficiency; if your meeting is at a plant, the choice makes itself.

Eating and going out

The food is northern and it is good: grilled beef, cabrito, machacado con huevo for breakfast, trompo tacos at night, and flour tortillas on every table. A set lunch runs around MX$100-160 and a taquería dinner with a drink MX$150-250. The breakfast places along Obregón are the standing ritual for business travellers.

You are on the Gulf coast, so seafood is the other chapter: shrimp from the Laguna Madre, blue crab, ceviche and cocktails. Playa Bagdad lies some 35 kilometres east on a straight road, with palapas, brown sand and murky water; it is a local Sunday beach, not a Caribbean postcard. Go by day, arrange transport, and ask about the road first.

And the honest note about nights out: the offer is limited and the city goes home early. The market and the centre are afternoon business; after dark, move door to door by taxi and don't improvise. Plenty of residents simply cross to Brownsville for the evening, which is an option too if your visa is current.

Booking well

The sample here is small: our 2026 scans found 6 hotels with a real price, from US$43 a night and a typical rate of about US$83. With so few options, scarcity bites — a Tuesday loaded with plant visits can leave you without the room you wanted, so book several days ahead for work trips.

Before confirming, ask three concrete things: whether parking is gated and watched, whether breakfast is included, and how far you really are from the bridge you plan to use. If you arrive on a night bus or the last flight, put your arrival time in writing so nobody releases your room.

Favour rates you can cancel. Border queues, shifting work schedules and cancelled flights are part of the script here, and paying a couple of dollars more for a movable date usually pays for itself. If you are crossing anyway, price the Brownsville side as well before you commit to either.
