The hotel floors are very nice and unique the rooms are practical it is an unusual hotel as it shares a building with a hospital. The good news is it doesn't smell like a hospital not your typical Hotel. I was a little disappointed that the price they quoted online and in-person was nearly 7 based on that I would not recommend this hotel to anyone regardless of its few amenities that are unique 5% more than when I showed up. I hope that the manager will correct the situation other than that the views from my room are spectacular. The City skyline at night is beautiful..... UPDATE The manager…
It's a very nice place to stay overnight, or even to spend the day. It might scares off some people due to it sharing the building with a hospital yet there's no need to fear as it is amazing. The view from the rooms are great, better on floor 15. And the pool is very nice too, not too big, but very nice for relaxation
Planning your trip to Morelia
When to go
The best window runs November to March: dry, mild days around 22-25°C, clean skies and the sierra open for the monarch sanctuaries. It is also the expensive stretch, and its opening act — the film festival in October, then Day of the Dead — packs the year's two peaks into a fortnight.
March to May turns dry and warm, afternoons near 28°C, dust in the air and the countryside yellow until the rains arrive. Holy Week lifts prices, though far less than on the coast; the rest of those weeks the city is calm and rates give way. May and June were, in our scans, among the kindest moments to sleep cheaply.
June to September it rains most afternoons — one or two hours of downpour that leave clean mornings and everything green. It isn't a bad season: it's the cheapest and the most photogenic, with the obvious cost of an umbrella and the odd dirt road turning difficult if you head out of town.
The honest note: at 1,920 metres, nights from December to February drop to 3-8°C and many Centro mansions have no heating, just thick blankets and very high ceilings. Ask before you book. And if you're coming for the butterflies, the window is strict: November to March, midweek if you can.
Getting there and around
The airport sits about 30 minutes from the Centro by highway and a taxi runs roughly MX$300-450 at 2025 prices; there is no convenient public transport link. The flight menu is modest — Mexico City plus a handful of US routes — so most travellers arrive better overland.
The bus is the natural way in: from Mexico City's Terminal Poniente it's 4-4.5 hours for MX$500-700, with departures roughly hourly; Guadalajara is 3.5-4 hours, Querétaro 2.5-3, Guanajuato or León around 3. The Central de Autobuses is 10-15 minutes west of the Centro, MX$70-120 by taxi.
In town you walk nearly everywhere: the Centro is flat and compact, and it's about twenty minutes on foot from the aqueduct to the cathedral. Combis and city buses cost a few pesos and are chaotic; ride-hailing apps work well and cost little. For Santa María de Guido or Altozano you need a car or a taxi, in the order of MX$100-180.
Driving: the toll roads to Mexico City, Guadalajara and Zitácuaro are good. Travel by day — the standing advice in Michoacán, and worth repeating — and stay off secondary roads after dark. Parking in the Centro is the other chore: narrow streets and paid lots in the order of MX$100-200 a night.
Where to stay, zone by zone
The Centro Histórico is both the reason for the trip and the best address: pink-stone mansions with a courtyard, a fountain and sometimes a chapel, blocks from the cathedral. Our 2026 scans give a floor of US$24 and a typical rate in the order of US$70 for the city, and the Centro covers almost that whole range, from hostel-in-a-mansion to quietly grand hotel.
Within the Centro there are shades: the blocks between the Plaza de Armas, the Jardín de las Rosas and the Callejón del Romance are the pleasantest and quietest at night; toward the Mercado Independencia prices drop and the noise starts early. East, along the Calzada Fray Antonio de San Miguel and Bosque Cuauhtémoc, you get trees, calm and easier parking, still walkable.
Outside the old core: Santa María de Guido, on the southern ridge, trades views, cool air and silence for a 15-20 minute drive down every time you want dinner. Altozano and Avenida Camelinas are the new city — malls, chains, hospitals — comfortable and predictable, with none of the charm you came for, unless you're here for work or driving with kids.
By profile: first visit, within four blocks of the cathedral; couples, a small mansion with a patio and breakfast; family with a car, Camelinas or Altozano for space and a pool; long stay, Chapultepec Norte, quiet and well served. Whatever you pick, ask whether the room faces Madero: handsome, and loud, church bells included.
Eating and going out
Michoacán's cooking is among the country's most underrated: steamed corundas and uchepos, sopa tarasca, enchiladas placeras with potato and carrot, morisqueta, Sunday carnitas, and gazpacho moreliano — chopped fruit with chilli, lime and cheese — for MX$30-50 on almost any Centro corner.
Eating well is cheap: a market or fonda breakfast for MX$70-120 and a set lunch for MX$100-150 at 2025 prices. The sweets market behind the old Jesuit college is the obligatory stop for guava ate, morelianas and cajeta; the Mercado Independencia is rowdier, more local, and where the city actually eats.
Evenings start under the arcades of the Plaza de Armas, coffee or charanda — Michoacán's cane spirit — with the cathedral in front of you. On Saturdays the towers are lit with fireworks: arrive half an hour early, because it genuinely fills. Bars spread along Madero and the Centro's side streets, plus the Camelinas area, more student than tourist.
Two practical warnings: on Sundays and Mondays many kitchens close early, and midweek the Centro empties after eleven. Walking it at night is normal and there is police presence in the tourist quarter; beyond that, order a car and be done.

The peaks are Day of the Dead and October's film festival. Because the lake towns — Pátzcuaro, Janitzio — have very few rooms, Morelia absorbs the overflow and fills too: for those dates think three to six months ahead. Monarch-season weekends and Mexican long weekends also tighten things, though a month usually solves them.
What to verify in the old houses before you pay: heating, or at least a heater and real blankets for cold nights; whether the room faces the courtyard (dark, silent) or the street; whether the hotel has its own parking or a deal with a lot; and whether there is a lift, because viceregal staircases are monumental and were never designed for suitcases.
The prices here are 2026 observations, per night: confirm the live rate with the widget before you commit. One itinerary note: the monarch sanctuaries mean 2-3 hours each way and pre-dawn starts, so a night in Angangueo or Ocampo sometimes beats the round trip from Morelia.
