Just average The hotel is clean, the personally is kind, but after staying 5 nights these are constant issues, they're always knocking the door, at least twice a day with no porpoise but to check if there is someone there, it's anoying if you want to sleep late specially on weekends. For someone who stays for a night doesn't sees it happen, but not for me. Also the Wi-Fi is terrible, I mean terrible, I don't see people not streaming today, but you just can't I mean it, I couldn't at all, low speed connection and constant disconnecting happened all the time, and well that's pretty much it.
Find someplace else,,, any place else. Staff was okay but,, not a nice place to stay. Room smelled heavily of mold and mildew.
Planning your trip to Paraiso
When to go
It is hot and humid year-round. Days sit around 30-34°C with heavy humidity and nights that barely cool off, so air conditioning is not an optional extra. March to May is the driest stretch and also the most punishing at midday, when the sun hammers the highway and the dark sand.
Tabasco is one of Mexico's wettest states. From June to October it rains most days, usually in hard afternoon downpours, and the September-to-November stretch is the heaviest of all: swollen rivers, flooded road sections, and occasional full days of rain. Not a reason to cancel, but a reason to keep your plans loose.
November to February brings the nortes, northerly blows off the Gulf with grey skies, choppy sea and a few genuinely cool days. Good weather for walking the town and eating oysters, poor weather for lying on a beach. Between fronts, February delivers bright, comfortable days.
Demand matters more than weather. Holy Week is the biggest week of the year on the municipality's beaches, followed by July and August and the long weekends. For a quiet town and more predictable rates, aim for weekdays outside the Mexican school holidays.
Getting there and around
Villahermosa airport is the gateway, some 80-90 km away. Driving takes an hour and a half to two hours on the Comalcalco route, through small towns and endless speed bumps — do not plan on doing it quickly. A private transfer runs into the hundreds of pesos, so for two or more people it is worth pricing a rental car instead.
By bus it is simple and cheap: frequent departures from the Villahermosa terminal to Paraíso, stopping in Comalcalco, usually around two hours. Services also come from Cárdenas and along the coastal corridor towards Coatzacoalcos. The Paraíso bus station sits near the centre, a few minutes by taxi from most hotels.
Within the municipality everything is close but scattered. Puerto Ceiba and El Bellote are minutes from town, the beaches and Dos Bocas a little further, Chiltepec off in the other direction. Shared vans and colectivo taxis cover the main routes, and a regular taxi runs MX$40-60 within town; after dark, frequency drops sharply.
A car buys you Comalcalco, the lagoon and the sandbars in one day, but drive in daylight. Secondary roads are unlit, patchy in places, and share space with cattle; in the rainy season they flood fast. That is standard regional caution rather than a specific security warning.
Where to stay, zone by zone
The centre of Paraíso, around the plaza and the church, is the practical choice without a car: hotels, cheap kitchens, ATMs, the bus station and the shared-van stops are all within a few blocks. It is not picturesque — this is a working town, noisy from early morning — but it works, especially if you plan day trips to Comalcalco and the lagoon.
The corridor towards Dos Bocas holds the lodging built for technicians and contractors: functional rooms, secure parking, early breakfast, not much else. It fills Monday to Thursday and often has space at weekends. Sensible if the terminal or the refinery is your reason for being here; dull if you came for pleasure.
The coastal strip near the beaches has very little formal accommodation, and much of it is simple: rooms beside seafood palapas, lively and loud at weekends. Worth it if that is exactly what you want. Midweek it can feel empty, with reduced service and few places open for dinner.

The reason to eat here is Laguna Mecoacán: the oysters of Puerto Ceiba and El Bellote, served raw with lime, pickled in escabeche, or smoked, at palapas built over the water. It is the local speciality and it is not expensive — a seafood lunch with a beer usually lands around MX$200-350 a head, less if you stick to a dozen and a tostada.
In town the food is everyday Tabasco: grilled pejelagarto, snook, shrimp, chipilín tamales, empanadas, and pozol, the cold maize-and-cacao drink taken seriously around here. The market and the small comedores in the centre give the best value of the day, and midday is when everything is freshest and actually open.
Do not come for nightlife. Midweek the town shuts early and many kitchens go dark by nine; at weekends the coast wakes up, with music at the palapas and beer until late. For bars, cinema or ambitious restaurants, the honest answer is Villahermosa, two hours away.
Booking well
The first rule here is to book ahead rather than hunt for bargains. With so few rooms, availability rules: during Holy Week, long weekends and busy construction periods at Dos Bocas, the hotels sell out and whatever remains is priced accordingly. If your dates are fixed, lock the room in as soon as you have them.
When comparing, ask about what actually matters in this climate: how strong the air conditioning is, whether there is a backup generator or water tank for outages, mosquito screens, and enclosed parking if you are driving. In a small market, the gap between a decent hotel and an uncomfortable one rarely shows up in the photos.
