I booked in this hotel because I am having my 60th birthday event. I have had the opportunity to stay in many hotels, but this hotel is different due to its concept. The building is beautiful, the rooms are elegant and comfortable, the food at the restaurant is delicious, and the staff is hospitable and friendly. A few stars that I would like to mention are, marcelino, the restaurant server, Zeferino, the captain, Miguel Angel, Nain and event coordinators. Javier from valet parking.

The rooms and location are amazing !! Plus they accepts pets including big dogs 🐕. It would have been a plus if the room included a mini fridge for a 5 star review!

I recently stayed at MM Grand Hotel, a Hilton property, and it was a deeply disappointing experience. As a Hilton hotel, I expected a certain standard of service, but this hotel fell far short. Firstly, there was only one staff member in the entire hotel who spoke English, and this person was extremely rude and unhelpful. Important information, such as the additional charge for the breakfast buffet and the need to have my credit card open for potential charges, was not communicated to me at check-in. This led to a lot of confusion and inconvenience. When I tried to charge the breakfast cost…

Planning your trip to Puebla

When to go

Puebla is temperate all year: 2,135 metres, days of 22-28°C and cool nights always. May to September rains in the afternoons; November to February dawns cold and clear, with the volcanoes sharp — the best season to see them.

The price peaks are Cinco de Mayo — the holiday belongs to this city — Holy Week and long weekends, when the Mexico City escape crowd arrives. The weekly pattern matters: Saturdays climb, Tuesdays have rooms to spare.

One season has a culinary name: July to September, chiles en nogada — many people schedule the trip for that alone. For price, midweek in the rainy season is unbeatable.

An altitude nuance: at 2,135 metres, December and January mornings drop to single digits and many colonial houses have no heating — ask for a heater or extra blankets without embarrassment. The midday sun always warms the city back up.

Getting there and around

The usual arrival is overland from Mexico City: direct buses every few minutes from TAPO and also from the capital's airport, about 2 hours for MX$250-450 at 2025 prices. The small Huejotzingo airport sits 30-40 minutes out with few flights; taxi about MX$350-500.

The Centro Histórico walks entirely — a flat, legible grid — and nearly everything happens there. Taxis and apps cover Angelópolis and the forts for little money; the tourist bus helps link the high points.

Cholula is 20-30 minutes by taxi, app or the tourist tram: a perfect half day of pyramid, churches and cantinas. For Tonantzintla and Atlixco, hire a taxi by the hour or join a tour.

A transfer footnote: if you land at Mexico City airport, the direct Estrella Roja buses leave from both terminals and drop you at Puebla 4 Poniente or CAPU — no need to cross the capital first. Book the return leg a day ahead on holiday weekends.

Where to stay, zone by zone

The Centro Histórico is the only answer for a visitor: talavera-clad mansions and courtyards turned hotels within blocks of the Zócalo. The streets north and west of the plaza — toward Santo Domingo and the Capilla del Rosario — are the rounded location; toward the market and south the price drops and the commercial noise rises. Our 2026 scan logged a typical rate of US$63 with entry from US$22 — some of the country's best value.

Angelópolis is modern Puebla: towers, malls and executive hotels 20-30 minutes from the Centro. Comfortable with a car, useful for work, and without a single tile of the charm that motivates the trip.

Cholula, half an hour away, works as an alternative base: university-town air, hotels with pyramid views, and livelier nights than you would guess. Good for a second visit, or for anyone who ranks bars above museums.

By profile: first visit, within five blocks of the Zócalo; food trip, the same but near a lift and the sweets corridor — you will return loaded; budget, the streets toward El Carmen and San Francisco; work or your own car, Angelópolis; young crowd and bars, Cholula directly. And to see volcanoes from bed, ask explicitly for upper-floor rooms facing Popocatépetl — they exist and do not always cost more.

A note on scale: Puebla is Mexico's fourth city and its listings sprawl accordingly — an address in Amalucan or the northern industrial rim is 'Puebla' and half an hour from the tiles you came for. Keep the pin inside the historic grid or Angelópolis.

Eating and going out

Puebla is travelled for its food: mole poblano served with ceremony, cemitas with pápalo, street molotes and chalupas, and from July to September chiles en nogada as an event. The market register — El Alto, La Acocota, the sweets corridor — serves meals for about MX$70-130 in 2025; the Centro's tablecloth rooms multiply that, often justly.

Sweets are part of the canon: camotes, tortitas de Santa Clara and an entire candy street. The full-stall rule applies as everywhere.

Puebla nights are more sobremesa than party: rooftop bars facing the lit cathedral, traditional cantinas, and if dancing calls, the short hop to Cholula, where the student population keeps the music late.

A sweet-route tip: the candy street (6 Oriente) is best walked hungry and unhurried, tasting piece by piece — camotes, jamoncillos, borrachitos — before buying boxes. The Zócalo stalls sell the same at plaza markup.

Booking well

A mid-sized, stable market: 69 hotels with real prices in our 2026 scans, from US$22 with a typical rate of US$63. Midweek you rarely need notice; for Saturdays, Cinco de Mayo, Holy Week and long weekends, book two to four weeks out.

The Centro's mansions carry the genre's warnings: few rooms, stairs without lifts, early bells, and courtyards that amplify sound — the interior or back-courtyard room is usually the right one.

Angelópolis drops rates at weekends on the executive rhythm, the inverse of the Centro: if your date is a Saturday and the Centro runs high, that is the valve. Prices on this page are 2026 observations, per night; verify the live rate in the widget.

Two final notes: on long-weekend Saturdays the Centro fills with capital-city families and parking evaporates — arriving by car, confirm the parking spot before the room. And proximity to Mexico City cuts both ways: it is easy to get here, and easy for a big capital event — a concert, a final — to spill demand this far without warning.
