4.61081 reviewsThe hotel is good overall. However, there are several things I didn't like: The TV channels have frequent transmission issues. The garage is ridiculously small and hard to use. The pool was not working during my stay. If you arrive a few minutes early for breakfast, the staff will promptly make you aware of the opening time and that you have to wait (is just ridiculous). I also had trouble arranging a breakfast package to go when leaving early in the morning.
This hotel was perfect for our stay. The property is new and spotless, with secure parking that gave us peace of mind. As a bonus, it’s pet-friendly, which made traveling with our small dog so much easier. We couldn't have asked for a better experience and will definitely be staying here again the next time we're in San Luis Potosí!
To be fair I had a three month stay here and in that amount of time you notice more things. The room was very spacious with good AC and WiFi. The pool was excellent with two nice Weber grills although many days it was too windy to use because of the design of the open air roof. The parking garage is very tight and poorly designed. I ended up parking on the street instead of risking damaging my rental car. The food in the morning gets old fast but that can be expected for a long stay. The hotel is in a good area and I would recommend it for extended stays.
Planning your trip to San Luis Potosi
When to go
October and November are the rounded months: the rains have gone, days sit around 22-26°C and the pink stone looks its best under clean light. December to February keeps the sunshine, but at 1,860 metres nights drop to 3-6°C and not every old mansion has real heating — ask before you book for January.
March to May is dry and dusty, with May pushing 30°C and windy afternoons. June to September brings the storms: hard, short downpours, Parque Tangamanga green again, and softer rates — except in August, when the Feria Nacional Potosina fills the city for the best part of three weeks.
The other two peaks are Holy Week, for Good Friday's Procession of Silence, and the year-end holidays. But the calendar that really rules here is the weekly one: Monday to Thursday this is an industrial capital and hotels fill with work; Friday to Sunday the city empties and prices fall on their own.
If the Huasteca is on the plan, its season is a different one: the turquoise rivers look best from March to May, before the rains, and run high and brown from September into October. Down there, barely 100 metres above sea level, it is hot and humid year-round — nothing like the capital's cool nights.
Getting there and around
Ponciano Arriaga airport lies north of the city on Highway 57, 20-30 minutes from the Centro: taxi or app in the order of MX$250-400 at 2025 prices. Routes are few — mainly Mexico City, Monterrey and the odd US flight — so plenty of travellers arrive overland and lose nothing by it.
Arriving by road is easy: the city is a junction of highways 57 and 70. By bus, roughly 5 hours to Mexico City, 2 to Querétaro, 2 to Zacatecas, 5 to Guadalajara and 6 to Monterrey, with departures almost hourly. The Terminal Terrestre Potosina is 10 minutes from the Centro; an app ride runs about MX$60-100.
The Centro walks end to end: from the Plaza de los Fundadores to the Plaza de Armas, the Jardín de San Francisco and the Plaza del Carmen is fifteen minutes of pedestrian lanes. City buses are cheap and hard to decode on a short visit; ride-hailing costs little and solves the late hours.
With a car, the warning is parking: one-way streets, meters and few garages downtown — check whether your hotel charges extra. The car earns its keep for Real de Catorce (3.5-4 hours plus the Ogarrio tunnel), Santa María del Río, or the Huasteca on Highway 70, a curving mountain road best not driven after dark.
Where to stay, zone by zone
The Centro Histórico is the reason to come and also where the best rooms are: courtyard mansions turned hotels around the Plaza de Armas, the Jardín de San Francisco and the Plaza del Carmen. The cheapest Centro beds tend to sit toward the Alameda, the old railway station and Mercado República: the location works, the buildings are plain and the street is loud — ask for an interior or courtyard room. The surrounding historic barrios — San Miguelito, Tlaxcala, Santiago — are lovely to walk by day but hold almost no hotels.
The Avenida Carranza corridor, running west toward the Jardín de Tequisquiapan, gathers mid-range and executive hotels with their own parking, restaurants at the door and a 15-25 minute walk to the cathedral. Lomas and the industrial side are another animal: predictable chains beside the malls, comfortable with a car or for work, without a gram of the stone-city charm.
By profile: first visit, the blocks between the Plaza de Armas and the Jardín de San Francisco; tight budget, the simple hotels near the Alameda, checking window and noise; work trip or car, Carranza or Lomas, where weekends hand out the discounts; in winter, any zone you like, but with heating and hot water confirmed in writing.
Eating and going out
Potosino cooking is highland food built on dried chiles: enchiladas potosinas stuffed with cheese, tacos rojos with potato and carrot, oven-baked gorditas, fiambre potosino on feast days, and queso de tuna, a prickly-pear sweet, to finish. A market breakfast runs about MX$60-110 in 2025 and a set lunch MX$110-170 — working-city prices, not resort ones.
Mercado Hidalgo and Mercado República handle mornings; the terraces on Plaza del Carmen and the Jardín de San Francisco handle afternoons; Avenida Carranza handles dinner, with the widest choice in town. Mind Sunday evening and Monday, when half the city pulls the shutters down.
At night the university sets the pace: Thursday to Saturday the bars and old cantinas of the Centro and Carranza fill up, mezcal potosino and colonche included, and the plazas stay busy; midweek is calm. Bring a jacket — at this altitude terraces chill the moment the sun drops — and take an app rather than empty streets in the small hours.

The booking logic is inverted compared with a beach destination: for a Tuesday or Wednesday night, move early, because a convention or a busy week in the car industry strips the Centro of options. For Friday and Saturday a few days' notice usually does, and that is exactly where the good rates hide.
Two dates need months of lead time: Holy Week, for the Procession of Silence that fills the entire Centro, and August's Feria Nacional Potosina. Always confirm parking if you are driving, heating from November to February, and the real distance to the Plaza de Armas — plenty of listings say "centro" from fifteen blocks out.
