Cabo San Lucas is Mexico's expensive end, and its zones explain why. Downtown and the marina hold the nightlife and the mid-sized hotels, steps from the sport-fishing docks. Playa El Médano, the only genuinely swimmable beach in town, lines up the most in-demand resorts. Eastward, the Corridor toward San José del Cabo is the land of secluded luxury resorts, and on the Pacific side — Pedregal, Quivira — the scenery is spectacular but the sea is not for swimming. Our 2026 scans logged 65 hotels with a real price: from US$31 a night, though the typical rate is about US$246 — the highest in our dataset. Honestly: nearly everything here is priced in US dollars, the distances demand taxis, and in August-September the heat and hurricane risk empty — and discount — the town.

Where should I stay in Los Cabos?
On El Médano if you want to swim and walk to the marina restaurants. Downtown trims the bill in exchange for bar noise. The Corridor is for self-contained luxury resorts, and the Pacific side for views and weddings — not swimming. San José del Cabo, half an hour away, is the calmer, somewhat gentler-priced alternative.
When is Los Cabos cheapest?
August to September: strong heat, humidity and hurricane season, with the year's best discounts — book refundable rates. High season runs December to March, and October's sport-fishing tournaments spike occupancy. May and June are a fine middle ground, dry and uncrowded.
How do I get from the airport?
Los Cabos airport (SJD) is about 45 minutes away. Shared shuttles run around US$20-30 per person; a private transfer about US$80-100 per vehicle. There is no practical public transport with luggage. Many resorts sell transfers at booking — compare first, it is not always the cheapest route.
What should I know about the sea?
That most Cabo beaches are not swimmable: the Pacific currents are serious and the warning flags mean it. El Médano is the town's safe beach, and along the Corridor, Chileno and Santa María are the sheltered coves. The Arch is a short, cheap boat ride from the marina — worth it.
