The hotel isn’t fairly priced considering how small the rooms are and the mattresses are very hard and uncomfortable. The water pressure for the sink is bad not much water comes out. The towel hangers are loose and it appears that maintenance attention is lacking. Breakfast gets old I wish they could change the menu a bit by the week day or even add some American options such as pancakes or waffles for it to advertise as one of the “nicer” hotels my expectations were a little high. The location is great since it’s connected to the mall and it seems safe with security. The housekeeper Vero was…
Affordable prices. Individual rooms are compact but well designed. Beds are comfortable and baths are clean and well aired. Room temperature is adjustable. There are storage spaces in the furniture available. Elevator access to the rooming floors is key coded for better privacy. Staff is servicial and attentive.
Planning your trip to Durango
When to go
September to November is the sweet spot: the rains are done, the sierra is still green, days sit around 24°C and nights want a jacket. March and April work too — dry, mild, with more dust in the air. In both windows the city is calm and hotels are not competing for you, which is much of Durango's appeal.
May and June are the hottest, driest weeks of the year: 33-35°C at midday, hard high-altitude sun and little shade outside the Centro. July to September brings short, heavy afternoon storms, plus the Feria Nacional in July, which fills rooms and pushes rates up for a good fortnight.
Winter is the honest caveat. At 1,880 m, nights from December to February drop to freezing or below, with occasional frost, and not every hotel heats a room properly. The days are sunny and pleasant. Ask about heating before you book; air conditioning matters far less here than in Mexico's lowlands.
Getting there and around
General Guadalupe Victoria airport is about 20 km northeast, on the Parral road. There are daily flights to Mexico City and connections to Tijuana, Monterrey and the odd US city, but frequencies are thin — miss one and the next may be tomorrow. A taxi into the Centro runs roughly MX$300-400.
Buses do more work here than the airport. The Central de Autobuses sits east of town on Boulevard Felipe Pescador, about 15 minutes from the Centro by taxi (MX$70-100). Mazatlán is three and a half hours over the Baluarte bridge motorway, Torreón two and a half, Zacatecas four, Chihuahua seven or eight.
In town, the Centro is walkable end to end. Beyond it, city buses cost around MX$12, short taxi rides MX$60-90, and ride-hailing apps operate with fewer cars than in Torreón or Monterrey. Rent a car only if you are heading to the film sets, the sierra or day trips into the mountains.
One caveat: do not drive state highways after dark, particularly north and into the sierra. In daylight the Mazatlán motorway and the Torreón road are ordinary, busy routes, and the descent from the mountains to the coast is one of the most spectacular drives in the country.
Where to stay, zone by zone
The Centro Histórico is the only zone with real character: the cathedral, Plaza de Armas, pedestrianised Calle Constitución, the Paseo Túnel de Minería and the cable car up to the Cerro de los Remedios all sit within a few blocks. A few old houses here work as hotels. Ask for an inside room if you sleep lightly — bells, traffic and weekend music carry.
The chain hotels cluster along Boulevard Felipe Pescador, 20 de Noviembre heading east and Boulevard Domingo Arrieta: predictable rooms, parking, breakfast included, and a clientele on work trips — mining, timber, construction, government. You are 10-15 minutes from the Centro by taxi and walking distance from nothing much.
Around the bus station and the Paseo Durango mall you stay for convenience, not pleasure: a late arrival, an early departure, a day of paperwork. It does that job well. For a two-night visit to see the city, the Centro is easily worth the extra noise.

Eating and going out
The house dish is caldillo duranguense: dried beef stewed with chile, soupy, eaten with flour tortillas. Add corn gorditas straight off the griddle, regional Mennonite cheese, machaca, and Durango mezcals, which are real, good and barely leave the state.
For cheap, solid meals, the stalls in the Mercado Gómez Palacio and the small dining rooms around the Centro serve a set lunch for something like MX$100-150. The main meal happens between two and four; after that the city eats lightly, and Sundays are noticeably quiet almost everywhere.
Nightlife is modest and there is no point pretending otherwise: cafés and terraces along Calle Constitución and around the Plazuela Baca Ortiz, old cantinas in the Centro, a few bars out on the boulevards. Sunday to Wednesday things close early; Friday and Saturday the Centro genuinely fills, students included.
Booking well
Book properly ahead for July — the Feria Nacional and the city's anniversary on the 8th — plus Holy Week, long weekends and any weekend with events in the Centro. With eleven hotels scanned there is no cushion: when the city fills, it fills, and what remains costs more.

Before confirming, ask three things: whether the room has genuine heating for winter nights; whether the hotel has its own parking, since it is scarce in the Centro and the streets are narrow; and whether the room faces the street or a courtyard.
One practical habit: if you land on a night flight, arrange the airport transfer with the hotel in writing. Taxis exist, but the terminal empties within minutes of the last arrival, and you would rather not be negotiating in the dark in a hurry.
