About staying in Mazatlan
Mazatlán has two hotel hearts, and it pays to know which beats for you. The Zona Dorada, to the north, is the classic beach strip: seafront hotels and resorts, many with decades of practice, mid-range prices and a family feel. The Centro Histórico and Olas Altas, to the south, are the Mazatlán that came back to life — restored plazas, cafés, the longest malecón on Mexico's Pacific — with boutique hotels in old buildings. Further north, Cerritos lines up newer condo towers and resorts, more isolated. Our 2026 scans logged 68 hotels with a real price: from US$29 a night and a typical rate of about US$74, among the Pacific coast's most affordable. Honestly: from July to October the humid heat is serious, and during Carnaval — one of Mexico's biggest — the city fills and prices jump.

Zona Dorada or Centro Histórico?
The Zona Dorada for a classic beach holiday: sand at the door, a pool, and a family crowd. The Centro and Olas Altas for travellers who want plazas, cafés and local life with the city beach across the road. They sit 15-20 minutes apart by pulmonía — the open-air local taxi — so you can live in one and visit the other easily.
When is Mazatlán cheapest?
August to October, when the humid heat thins the crowds, prices hit bottom. High season runs November to April, driven by northern visitors wintering here. The absolute peak is Carnaval, in February or March: book months out or steer around those dates.
How do I get from the airport?
The airport lies southeast, 30-40 minutes from the Zona Dorada and slightly less from the Centro. The terminal's authorised transport desks charge about MX$400-600 per vehicle by zone; the shared van cuts the cost if you are not in a hurry. There is no practical city bus from the terminal.
What should I know before going?
That the malecón is the plan: 8 kilometres for sunset walks or bike rides, and pulmonías are the charming way around — agree the fare before boarding. The sea here has real surf and frequent warning flags; for calm swimming take the short boat hop to Isla de la Piedra.
