About staying in Puerto Morelos
Puerto Morelos is the fishing village that stayed put between Cancún and Playa del Carmen, and its hotels come in three layers. The port side — leaning lighthouse, pier — keeps small hotels steps from a calm beach and the protected reef, 500 metres offshore. The colonia, across the highway and 2 kilometres inland, carries the low prices. And north and south of town stretch the big all-inclusive resorts that explain why our dataset's typical rate climbs to US$233, though rooms start at US$32. In all we logged 25 hotels with a real price in 2026. Honestly: the town is small and quiet by design — short nights, restaurants that close early — and sargassum visits these beaches from May to October, as it does the whole Caribbean coast.

Where should I stay in Puerto Morelos?
On the port side, near the plaza and pier, if you come for the village and the reef: everything on foot, beach across the way. The out-of-town resorts suit an all-inclusive holiday with the village as an outing. The colonia costs far less, accepting the highway crossing and 2 kilometres to the sea.
When is it cheapest?
September and October, like the whole Riviera: rain, heat and real discounts. High season runs December to March. The town crowds less than Playa or Cancún even at peak, but the port side's small hotels are few — on big dates they sell out before the resorts do.
How do I get from the airport?
That is the local trump card: Cancún airport is only 20-25 minutes away. A taxi or private transfer runs about US$30-40; the ADO bus drops you on the highway, where a local taxi runs down to the port. It is the natural first stop off the plane — and the shortest.
What should I know about the reef?
That it is a national park with rules: snorkelling goes by licensed boat and guide from the pier — about US$30-40 per person — vest on, and only biodegradable sunscreen if any. The reef is alive and close; it is among the Riviera's best and the reason to stay here.
